At the center of Jack’s Beach Grille is a food lover making waves. Mario Famularo aimed to open a restaurant on the beach since leaving the New York City world of advertising after the 9/11 attacks. He always dreamed of running a family business while enjoying the sound of happy customers and the ocean at the same time. His dream has now become a reality.
As co-owner of Giacomo’s on the Hill in Easton, PA, Mario’s passion and vast knowledge for food are impressive to all. Mario hails from five generations of butchers and his uncle and cousin still own and operate a family butcher shop in Santo Stefano di Camastra, Sicily. Mario also learned from the best in the business, his parents, Giacomo and Gina Famularo. After arriving in the US in 1964, they set goals for their family to maintain the strength of a dedicated family business, a solid work ethic and limitless business knowledge.
There is more than just knowledge for food and business behind Jack’s Beach Grille. There’s a story. Mario’s young son, Giacomo (aka Jack) was affected by ASD (Atrial Septal Defect), which is a hole in the wall that separates the top two chambers of the heart. At the age of two, Jack had to undergo a successful open heart surgery. After this experience, it was vital for Mario to spend more time with his family. One of the places his family loves to visit is the beach. Invited by Sean and Amy Ellis, Mario, his wife, Addie, and son, Jack, visited LBI last year for the first time as a family and simply fell in love. Mario was certain that LBI would be the location of his new family business, Jack’s Beach Grille.
